"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." ~Jiddu Krishnamurti
I work from the perspective that the majority of what is perceived as "mental illness" is likely a natural response to living in an oppressive and colonized society, navigating the systems built on those foundations, and the effects of being raised in families with unresolved impacts by these systems. The invitation therapy offers, is to journey home, back to yourself by unpacking, processing, and making peace with yourself.

Like many Mexican families in the U.S., my roots include the farm labor of my parents and family. The politics of migration weave a story of relocations, reinventions, separations, and unions across native lands. From each parent I was gifted the inclination to persevere, challenge, create, and migrate. To seguir adelante, with eyes to the future, and hearts full of dreams, is how I was raised. I dedicate my work to my parents, and call upon them and generations before when practicing these healing arts. Know that the work done here is not done alone, and you are in good company.

Why Terapia Nepantla?
Based on the work of Gloria Anzaldúa and Indigenous wisdom, nepantla encompasses the experience of being "in between". This in-between can be temporary, cyclical, and long-standing as it interplays with microcosm (self) and macrocosm (family, relationships, society, politics, etc.). Terapia Nepantla grew out of the embodiment of nepantla in my personal journey and therapeutic practice.
My personal and professional experiences have come to embrace the liminal spaces of nepantla for self-awareness, healing, and growth at both the individual and collective levels. Western society fixates on rapid change, the illusion of certainly, and conformity as ways to "sell" happiness. By providing a slower more nuanced approach that honors your rhythm and needs, our collaborative work can welcome you back home to a deeper, authentic, and longer lasting relationship with yourself based on love, compassion, and respect.
